China too, is dependent on the U.S. and has a lot to lose if their foreign investments drop in value. If you look at U.S. foreign policy, you realize that while America is increasingly sensitive to Chinese needs because of the dollar issue, when it comes to Chinese energy security the U.S. adopts an aggressive strategy against them. One example of this is how the U.S. is hell-bent on disrupting the Iran-Pakistan-China natural gas pipeline (formerly Iran-Pakistan-India natural gas pipeline). Notice that it is Iran and Pakistan that are being dismembered, not India. Part of the reason for this is that the U.S. does not China to achieve energy security in trading with these countries. Obviously the U.S. cannot attack China directly, but you can see that the U.S. acts for China in some ways but still acts against them in others. Interesting exchange.
