Taghreed El-khodary, New York Times to CNN: No intruction to the people about what to do. Two days ago, Haniya – the Hamas Prime Minister – gave a speech saying these times are difficult.. things will change.. Leaflets are dropped by Israel, asking people to get out of the region. Nobody is here to guide the people. There is complete absense of leadership. It is extremely dark in Gaza. There is no electricity. There is no drinking water. One dont know when this is going to end. One can hear drones, F-16. Children here are so afraid..their mother’s are so afraid, they cant hide their fear from the children. It is really hard to describe. They feel abandonned. One dont know where is Israel going to attack, which building are going to be get bombed. You dont know who is your neighbour. Its psychological war. Its a military war by all means..
Channel 10, Israel: Stage 2 has started. Army now moving into Gaza. Exchange of fire heard between militants and soldiers.
CNN: Do you think you can stop these rockets with this war ?
Avital Leibovich, Israel Defence force: This attack is to secure those areas from where Hamas is launching rockets into Israeli towns. We have learned so much from the lebanon war about urban warfare. Things are completly different this time.
CNN: How do you differentiate between Hamas and people ?
Avital Leibovich: We are calling out….using leaflets..Hamas is not doing anything to differentiate people from this battle.
CNN: How long is this attack going to continue ?
Avital Leibovich: It is going to be a lengthy operation.
CNN: How long.. weeks? .. months?
Avital Leibovich: I cannot say anything specific about that.
CNN: Is Hamas leadership a target ?
Avital Leibovich: Anything related with Hamas is going to be get targeted for our self defence.
Saeb Erakat, Palestinian Advisor: We have called for International community to intervene and stop this aggression. Who are they fighting. We dont have an army. Political solution is needed for this problem.
CNN: Political solution ?
Saeb Erakat: we have the worst palestian situation since 1967, but we dont want to solve this problem with bullets or violence.
CNN: Israel wants the rocketing to be stopped..
Saeb Erakat: Egypt brought ceasefire 6 months ago. Military solution only adds to the complexity.
CNN: there was a cease fire for 6 months…but, it did not change anything..
Saeb Erakat: How many people were killed during that 6 months…
CNN: How is the new cease fire going to be different.
Saeb Erakat: we can have cease fire along with international monitors in Gaza. Political solution is what needed in these situations.
