Indian batsmen, apart from Sehwag and Gambhir, failed once again – now for the total of 6th time – against spin twins of Srilanka, Muralidharan and Mendis. Even though it surprises many, for me it is not very much surprising. In fact, Indians apart from Sehwag and Gambhir werent playing spinners that exclusively for about two years or so. If I can remember well when last time England came to India for a 3-match test series, Monty Panesar was able to trouble the top Indian batsmen. Also, in South Africa where Paul Harris, who was playing his first match just like Mendis, was able to trouble India in the last test match in South Africa. In fact, Harris was able to guide South Africa in to a series victory on that occasion. So this has been going on for some time now. To be exact, when indian batsmen stopped using their feet against spinners they started finding it difficult to negotiate them, even on their own pitches. I dont even remember when was the last time when an Indian batting lineup took the challenge to a spinner in a test match let alone a test series. This Indian batting line up lack that killer instinct. They just try to play out the threat. But, that is really when they give the advantage back to the opponents. If any thing is to learn, it is from their colleagues – Sehwag and Gambhir – who attacks and goes on attacking their opposition spinners and they easily find them manageable where as other Indian batsmen goes on fighting their own ghost.
