Another local language is being hunted down by the Universal gaint. This is the case in karnataka where local language is being miffed by heavy and increasing use of English by insiders and outsiders of the state. With IT boom and its flourishing, Bangalore or Bengaluru [renamed lately] already ensconsed its name in the international business map. With the fame, ‘rolled-in’ people from all parts of the world. With the influx of mob, came the neutral language ENGLISH.
It is like the story of merchant and camel. clearly, now space of the tent is with camel.
Local Government and various indigenous groups tried many things to rekindle the passion of kannada among people, but with modicum results.
Kannada films too flagged during these times, primarily because of their lack of substance. This also miffed the indigenous language. To tackle the problem of bad films, other language films, namely hindi and english, were released deferred. But, sadly, nothing worked.
now Kannada development authority [KDA] is coming up with a new idea. They want all the shops to display headboards with 3 languages, with kannada mandatory. KDA says it will slap a hefty fine of 10,000 IRS in case shopkeepers refuse to their recent rule. All is fine, but how is this going to help flagging language ? i have no clue. it is just another waste step. When will they realise this ?
It is just another classic case of globalisation taking effect, cripping and trashing the local fodder. It is sad, but hey, this is natural selection, stronger will outplace the weaker.
let evolution continue..
